Welcome to the official ACTION CYBORG website! If you already guessed this is a temporary website, then your guess is entirely correct! Due to lack of time this website hasn't been given any "proper" design yet, but that will hopefully change in the future. This website does receive updates though, and you will ALWAYS find the latest version of ACTION CYBORG at this address, so make sure you bookmark and check back frequently! //John Karlgren ::: LATEST NEWS ::: This is just a small update to inform you that - unfortunately - Action Cyborg has been put on ice for the time being. There are four reasons for this: 1) I don't longer have any contact with the game's graphician, 2) Designing new levels for the game requires new graphics first, 3) I am busy working on the music for my album with Terror Punk Syndicate, and 4) I am working on a new and much better game! (more information on this when the time comes). BUT! If you are a 2D graphician and you are interested in designing levels for Action Cyborg then - by all means - contact me ASAP! I would love to add new content to the game and release new versions. Establishing a partnership with a graphician who would work on the game with me would certainly boost my motivation as well. But since I can't draw graphics myself, I am currently stuck at the moment.... //John Action Cyborg Version 0.1.2 released! This is a minor update that mostly ensures compatibility with some newer monitors which may not display low-res screen modes very well. From the changelog: Action Cyborg Version 0.1.1 released! This version fixes a few bugs and problems, and also improves some of the previous features. It also includes a new level, "Streets of Fire". Here is the complete list of updates (from the changelog): LEVEL DESIGNERS WANTED BADLY!!! We need a few people to help us out making some new, cool levels for Action Cyborg, based on the current graphics set. Please contact cyborg(at)terrorpunksyndicate(dot)org if you are interrested! You will ofcourse receive FULL credit for your effort! Making a level for Action Cyborg takes between 30 minutes and a few hours, depending on the size of your level and attention to detail. You will use a very simple and easy-to-use level editor to draw tiles, place enemies and objects (weapons, ammo and medkits). If your level is considered "good enough", it will be included with the next release of the game! So give it a try and e-mail us right away and we will send you the editor! Action Cyborg Version 0.1.0 released! Yes! This is the first official beta release of the new retro 2D platform/action-cyberpunk computer game produced by Studio Stök. Please check the file readme.txt included with the game for more information. This website was put together in 30 minutes and uploaded to Internet. The first beta version of Action Cyborg will be released any day now.... ::: WHAT IS ACTION CYBORG? ::: ACTION CYBORG is a small retro 2D platform/action-game written in C and SDL by John Karlgren, and released by Studio Stök. The game is still in it's beta phase and is to be considered *unfinished* software for the moment. This current version features only a few early levels, but more content is planned to be added as new versions of the game are released. By the time of release of version 1.0.0, Action Cyborg should have matured into a full game with complete levels and content. But for now, that still lies in an unknown future! ::: SCREENSHOTS ::: Click an image for a larger version (opens in a popup window). These screenshots are from the first released version (0.1.0).
::: DOWNLOAD EXECUTABLE ::: Here you can download all the versions of the game (latest version is 0.1.2). These are Win32 versions and will work under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Everything you need to run the game is included in the ZIP-file. Version 0.1.2 (2,77 MB) Released 24 January 2007 (4 levels + more bugfixes) Version 0.1.1 (2,77 MB) Released 5 December 2006 (4 levels + bugfixes) Version 0.1.0 (2,82 MB) Released 25 November 2006 (3 levels) ::: HOW TO PLAY ::: When you launch the executable, you are presented with the title screen and main menu. Navigate the menu with UP and DOWN arrow keys, and select an option with ENTER. You can always go back to this menu by pressing ESCAPE after you have launched a new game. The in-game controls are very easy. Move the cyborg left and right with the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys. Press Z to make him jump, and X to fire the weapon. You can swap weapons with 1, 2, 3 and 4. You can only swap to a weapon if you have picked it up, so if you press 2 (for shotgun) and nothing happens, then you need to find and pick up a shotgun first. You complete a level by reaching the exit (usually the far right end of the level), and you are automatically taken to the next level when doing so. The enemies (everyone but you!) will do their best to stop you from reaching the exit. They will try to kill you on sight by fireing their weapons at you. You can respond to this by shooting back and killing them, or you can try to run past them if you have ran out of ammunition, or if there are too many of them. Do your best to avoid getting hit by their bullets, or you will take severe damage. You can find and pick up medkits to restore your health back to normal. If you get hit by an explosive rocket (fired by enemy cyborgs armed with rocket launchers), you are instantly killed. ::: CONTACT INFORMATION ::: If you're having problems with Action Cyborg, have found a bug, would like to suggest something, or if you just wanna let us know how good (or BAD!) you think the game is, then please e-mail me (John Karlgren, the programmer) on address cyborg(at)terrorpunksyndicate(dot)org. Make sure you correct the e-mail address which is printed wrongly to prevent spamming.
